Today, we’re proud to introduce you to Jim, Head of Development, who has been with Bluebox for over 14 years, starting as an intern and growing with the company ever since, evolving into a leadership role. His journey is driven by a deep-rooted curiosity and a belief that when technology is done right, it doesn’t just function, it has a real impact. Jim’s love for creative tech started early. With a multimedia lecturer for a dad, he grew up surrounded by animation, design, and code. That blend of influences led him to study animation, not only gaining technical skills, but also learning the value of patience, detail, and thinking differently. Outside of work, Jim is a hands-on maker. Whether it’s woodworking, DIY projects around the house, or shooting with his old DSLR in full manual mode, he’s someone who enjoys understanding how things work and making them better. Not because it’s the easiest route, but because it’s the most rewarding one. At Bluebox, Jim brings that same mindset to software. He’s led the evolution of our development practices, mentoring new developers, and helping to transform complex client challenges into simple, effective digital tools. His background in both creativity and code gives him a unique perspective, blending technical logic with user-focused design. This week we’re kicking off our brand-new team spotlight series – because at bluebox, it’s all about the people behind the tech. First up (no pressure), it’s our Managing Director, Simon Chrzanowski. Simon’s been with bluebox for nearly 15 years, starting out as a Business Development Manager when the company was just a team of four. Since then, he’s played a part in pretty much every corner of the business,  from sales and operations to project delivery and HR, before stepping into the MD role a few years ago. He’s passionate about building genuine relationships, solving the kinds of problems that off-the-shelf software just can’t, and making sure we stay true to our inclusive and forward-thinking roots as we grow. Outside of work, Simon’s a proud dad to two older teenagers, and when he’s not helping steer the business, he’s likely working on his house (a definite ‘doer-upper’), or adding to his ever-growing collection of vinyl, CDs and Blu-rays. If it’s a little weird, arty or obscure, chances are he owns it. He’s also a long-suffering but loyal Liverpool fan (his fandom started with the Wimbledon FA Cup final – not the best start!). Ask him about his favourite film and you’ll get a passionate, deep dive into Jaws. Ask him about comfort food and it’s either wine or cake – possibly both. His ideal Sunday morning? Coffee, sunshine, and some Miles Davis in the background. And the motto he lives by? “Treat others as you expect to be treated” – something that feels more important than ever in today’s noisy world. This week in our bluebox team spotlight, meet Rob – one of our developers, language lover, and resident crossword clue mastermind. Rob joined bluebox in November 2022, making the leap from a decade-long career as an English teacher into the world of software. After completing a coding bootcamp, he landed his first tech role with us and hasn’t looked back. Since then, he’s grown beyond a junior developer role into a more rounded position, now also handling first-line support through our ticket system. There’s still lots to learn (his words, not ours), but his curiosity and steady calm make him a real asset to the team. Outside the office, Rob lives in Bristol and keeps busy with a love of hiking, board games, foreign languages, cinema, and football. He’s also a bit of an etymology nerd and for fun, he writes cryptic crossword clues (yes, really). If you need a brain-teaser over lunch, he’s your guy. His idea of a perfect start to the day? A pot of Earl Grey and a warm pain au chocolate. Comfort food? Spaghetti Alla Carbonara all the way. As for travel dreams, you’ll likely find him somewhere in the Alps, soaking in the mountain air. Next up in our bluebox team spotlight series is someone who keeps the heart of the business beating, meet Annie Cullen, our Head of People and Wellbeing. Annie’s the person behind so much of what makes bluebox feel like, well… bluebox. She’s spent years helping shape a culture where compassion, mutual respect and genuine care for each other aren’t just buzzwords, they’re deeply rooted in the team culture. From supporting mental wellbeing to nurturing long-term growth and development, Annie’s work is a big reason our team feels more like a family. Outside of work, Annie describes herself as a country bumpkin and “custodian of mad animals” (they chose her, apparently). She’s also appeared on three book covers, has won a costuming award at the Italian Film Festival, and is the proud creator of a beautiful country garden. Roast beef is the go-to comfort food, and her ideal morning starts with a coffee in the sunshine, surrounded by the garden she’s lovingly grown. Favourite film? Easy Virtue. Dream destinations? She’s happiest in Oxfordshire, Cornwall or the Greek islands, peaceful places that match her calm, grounded vibe. Tucked into a corner of the bluebox studio sits one of the very first Apple Macs, small, square, and iconic. It may look very retro now, but this little box helped revolutionise the creative and software landscape. Today, we would like to shine the spotlight on Chris French, our Senior Developer and long-standing bluebox legend. Originally from Worcester, Chris made the move to Hereford in 2021, where he now lives with his wife, daughter, and their lovable Cocker Spaniel, Mabel. Outside of coding, Chris has a rockstar past, he was the frontman of a band called Fortress, which he formed with friends at just 18. These days, he channels his creativity into gaming, board games, reading, and hitting the slopes whenever he can. Chris joined bluebox way back in June 2010 as a trainee developer. In the early days, he focused on frontend development and database construction, but over the past 15 years, he’s expanded his skills and grown into a key player on the infrastructure side of the business. From managing cloud servers to ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, Chris helps power the platforms our clients rely on. When it comes to life’s essentials, Chris swears by cheese as the ultimate comfort food. His favourite way to start the day? A peaceful walk with Mabel and a good coffee in the garden. A fan of the classic Back to the Future, he also dreams of returning to Vancouver, where, in a twist of real-life movie magic, he once bumped into Lou Diamond Phillips at a street crossing!
